The World of Wonder playground at Southeast Clarke Park, located at 325 Whit Davis Rd., will be closed on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, for maintenance. The playground is scheduled to re-open and resume its regular schedule the following day, Thursday, August 8, 2024. Leisure Services announces end of aquatics season
All department pools, located at Heard Park, Lay Park, Memorial Park, and Rocksprings Park will close for the season on Sunday, July 28 at 5:30 p.m. The Rocksprings Park Splash Pad will also close for the season.

Athens-Clarke County proposes polling location change for Precinct 7A
Pursuant to O.C.G.A. § 21-2-265, the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections and Voter Registration proposes a change to the Election Day polling place for voters in Precinct 7A. The current location, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens at 780 Timothy Rd, Athens, GA 30606, is proposed to be moved to Timothy Baptist Church at 380 Timothy Road, Athens, GA 30606. This change would take effect beginning with the November 5, 2024 General Election.

Security screenings begin at Athens-Clarke County's city hall starting July 15
In June 2024, the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov)’s Mayor and Commission approved the FY25 budget, which included funding to make City Hall at 301 College Avenue a weapons-free facility similar to the Athens-Clarke County Courthouse at 325 East Washington Street. The courthouse has operated under security screening protocols for many years.

ACCGov suspends owner-surrendered dog intake amid parvovirus outbreak
The ACCGov Animal Services Department at 125 Buddy Christian Way will not accept owner-surrendered dogs for intake until Tuesday, July 23 due to two confirmed cases of canine parvovirus and space constraints. The puppy area will also be closed to visitors during this time, and some dogs in affected spaces may not be available for adoption until that date.

Section of Oconee River Greenway to close for art installation
A section of the Oconee River Greenway, under the North Oconee Access Road overpass, will be closed to all traffic while a new public artwork is installed: “Water is Life,” by Georgia artist Elaine Stephenson. Installation is scheduled to begin on August 22 with completion projected in mid-September. During this period, all through traffic will be detoured around the work. While work is underway, the closed section of Greenway will be inaccessible for the safety of trail users and workers.
