Elections department seeks poll workers for November general election

The Elections Department invites qualified residents to apply for positions as poll workers for the upcoming General Election on November 5, 2024. Available roles include Poll Coordinator, Assistant Poll Coordinator, and Poll Clerk. Applications can be submitted at www.accgov.com/pollworker.

Poll workers play a crucial role in the election process by welcoming voters, facilitating voting, and ensuring precinct operations comply with election laws and procedures. Many poll workers return annually due to their commitment to the electoral process.

To qualify as a poll worker, applicants must meet several criteria:

- Be a United States citizen.

- Reside in Athens-Clarke County.

- Be at least 16 years old.

- Have proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.

- Not be a convicted felon unless rights have been restored.

- Not run for or hold public office while serving as a poll worker.

- Relatives of candidates cannot serve in precincts where the candidate is on the ballot.

- Preferably be a registered voter if aged 18 or older.

The specific duties for each position are outlined below:

Poll Coordinator: This role involves supervising polling place operations, assigning tasks to assistants and clerks, attending training sessions, picking up supplies, setting up and dismantling polling places, and delivering all supplies to the Elections Department on election night.

Assistant Poll Coordinator: Responsibilities include attending training sessions, assisting the manager with various duties, and potentially accompanying the manager on election night.

Poll Clerk: This position requires attending training sessions and assisting the manager with assigned tasks.
