ATHENS, GA – A partnership between The Classic Center Theatre and Athenspets is set to offer local rescue dogs a chance at adoption during an upcoming Broadway show. On March 18, 2025, the theatre will host a performance of Annie, featuring Kevin, a seven-year-old rescue Labradoodle from Georgia as Sandy.
The production of Annie has long been associated with themes of hope and resilience. This year's tour continues the tradition of casting a rescue dog in the role of Sandy, a practice that began with the original 1977 Broadway production.
In conjunction with the show, Athenspets will be present at The Classic Center Theatre to provide information about local adoptions. They aim to encourage attendees to consider adopting rescue pets from Athens.
Athenspets is described as "a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization focused on supporting animals in Athens, GA," providing services such as medical care and adoption outreach programs for animals in need.
