With the county experiencing significant growth, the Jackson County Board of Education is considering the addition of three new schools. This plan depends on the renewal of E-SPLOST and the approval of a General Obligation Bond in the vote scheduled for March 18. The proposed schools—a new elementary, middle, and high school—would be built on Highway 332 in Hoschton.
During a recent meeting, the Board took a step forward by naming these potential institutions. In a unanimous decision, they proposed Hayes Elementary School, Sell’s Mill Middle School, and Hoschton High School as names for the new schools. These names were among those suggested through a community survey.
The name Hayes Elementary School acknowledges the local farm where it will be situated. Sell’s Mill Middle School's name reflects its proximity to a nearby park. Hoschton High School derives its name from its location near the city and its mailing address.
Jackson County School System is noted as Georgia's fastest-growing school system, with over 40 percent student body growth in six years. The system has previously funded and constructed Legacy Knoll Middle School, opened in August 2023, and Heroes Elementary School, opened in August 2024, using E-SPLOST funds along with State Capital Outlay and General Funds.
