Dr. Todd Chandler, the leader of the choral program at East Jackson High School, expresses a deep passion for his role as a chorus teacher within the Jackson County School System. For Chandler, teaching music and leading a successful performing arts program feels more like fulfilling a dream than working.

Chandler is thrilled to work in the school system where he grew up, sharing his love for music with students. Recently, the East Jackson Chorus program celebrated 21 students qualifying for All-State Chorus, marking a record number for the school and placing them among Georgia's top schools.

Achieving this milestone was part of Chandler's long-term vision. He explains that when Dr. Stratemeyer arrived, one of his goals was to increase all-state participants. The effort included increasing rehearsals and recruiting promising students.

Chandler acknowledges the dedication of his students has strengthened the entire program. "Individually, one of our goals was to make everyone of our kids stronger," he said. As they prepare for upcoming competitions, he believes these experiences will further fortify their skills.

He attributes much of their success to early exposure to music in lower grade levels across the county. "I think we have an extremely strong staff," Chandler noted, emphasizing how foundational skills taught from kindergarten are crucial.

Chandler advocates that extracurricular activities provide valuable life experience beyond graduation. "Essential skills," he stated, drawing parallels between learning music and other disciplines like sports.

Reflecting on his own journey from a musical family background in Jackson County to formal training at universities such as UGA and Shorter University, Chandler emphasizes education over performance aspirations: "So one of my goals was to come back to Jackson County."

Having left briefly to pursue further education before returning to teach at East Jackson High School, Chandler remains enthusiastic about future prospects amidst community growth: "I am really excited about the leadership we have in place right now."
