Join Dr. Stephen Chew of Samford University as he presents Preparing Adolescents to Be Academically Successful. Adolescence is a time of rapid change, both in terms of brain development and social adjustment. Academic demands increase, especially for college-bound students, which can be a major source of stress. Tickets are free, but required for this event. In this presentation, Chew will discuss what psychologists have discovered about how people learn and how this knowledge can promote academic success. Surprisingly, the research shows that learning is counterintuitive. People hold many misconceptions about learning and students often prefer the least effective study strategies. Knowing how to learn effectively can promote a sense of academic self-efficacy and mastery among adolescents. Furthermore, it is a life skill that will help students in college and careers.
