HCD is preparing to re-designate sections of Inner East Athens as a Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area (NRSA) as part of its FY26-30 Consolidated Plan. This designation aims to enable the area to receive community development block grant funds for local redevelopment. The Reese-Hancock Corridor and Inner East Athens have previously been designated as NRSAs, but the current application seeks to focus more attention on Inner East Athens.

Public input is being sought by HCD on the strengths, opportunities, and priorities for revitalizing and promoting development in Inner East Athens. Residents of ACC are encouraged to participate in the planning process until March 31, 2025. They can attend one of two community forums at Heard Park Multipurpose Room on March 20 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., or on March 27 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Residents can also complete an online confidential survey, which takes approximately five minutes. Additionally, focus groups with community stakeholders specializing in community development, youth development, economic development, and affordable housing will take place throughout March.

A draft NRSA application will be available for public comment in Spring 2025 as part of the FY26-30 Consolidated Plan.

For further information, individuals can visit the HCD Public Input Opportunities website or contact HCD via email at hcd@accgov.com or by phone at 706-613-3155.
