The Brenau Golden Tigers Cheer Team hired a familiar face as their new head coach: Bralee Housworth. She will oversee both the competitive and spirit teams.
“She is the perfect fit for our program as both our most recent assistant cheer coach and as a former Brenau cheer team member,” Athletic Director Mike Lochstampfor said. “Bralee has demonstrated her coaching ability, has a great relationship with the team and will provide a smooth transition for what has historically been one of our most successful athletic programs.”
Housworth said she wants to see a successful program that attracts and inspires young athletes.
“In addition to being exceptional in the competition, I want the program to be recognized for academic excellence and positive work in the community,” she said.
Housworth previously coached the competitive cheer team at East Jackson High School in Commerce, Georgia. She led the program to five top-10 finishes at Georgia High School Association state meets, including three finishes in the top five. The team took home the GHSA Region 8AAA title for 2020-21.
For Housworth, the competitive cheer team is more than just tumbling and choreography.
“We are able to get the Brenau name out there on a national level,” she said. “We compete at the National Cheerleaders Association Nationals alongside many fantastic programs from across the country and it’s a wonderful opportunity to represent our university.”
Housworth replaces Krista Britt, who was the founding head coach of the competition cheer team.
“I look forward to supporting Bralee’s efforts and the program’s future accomplishments as she builds on the great foundation that was put in place by Coach Britt,” Lochstampfor said.
Housworth and her husband, Michael, live in Maysville with their dog, Milo, and are expecting their first child in December. Housworth holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in middle grades education.
