East Jackson High School has been recognized as a Military Flagship School by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). The school is one of only 25 institutions across Georgia to receive this honor, covering all education levels from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
The Military Flagship School Award celebrates schools that excel in providing a supportive environment for military students and families. These schools are noted for their efforts to engage military families, recognizing and addressing their unique needs.
A panel with expertise in educating military-connected students evaluates schools to determine award recipients. The evaluation criteria include the services and programs available to support military students and their families, training for school personnel to understand and assist military children, opportunities for military families to engage with the school and the community, and efforts to ensure military families feel respected and involved in the school environment.
The Georgia Department of Education highlighted East Jackson High School's commitment: "Through the Interstate Compact, East Jackson High School provides flexibility for military students in enrollment and graduation requirements. The school helps military students transition smoothly with course placement accommodations and ensures participation in extracurricular activities, even after standard deadlines."
State Superintendent Richard Woods initiated the Military Flagship Award in 2019.
