Service changes announced in Athens-Clarke County for Earth Day 2025

Athens-Clarke County Government has announced changes to the schedule of its services and facilities in observance of the Earth Day holiday on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Animal Services will close its Adoption Center on April 22 and resume regular hours on April 23. Field services will operate on an emergency on-call basis during Earth Day for cases such as animal bites or injured animals. Normal services will resume the following day.

Leisure Services will close all facilities on April 22, reopening under normal hours the next day. However, parks will remain open during regular hours on Earth Day.

Solid Waste services outside the Downtown district will not be collected on April 22. Collection will follow a revised schedule: Monday's collections on April 21, Tuesday's on April 23, and so forth. Within the Downtown district, services will continue as scheduled. The Landfill and the CHaRM will also be closed on April 22 with operations resuming on April 23.

The Transit service will continue to operate during regular hours on April 22. General departmental offices, such as City Hall and the Courthouse, will remain closed on April 22 and will reopen on April 23.
