Athens seeks residents to fill roles in local policy-making boards

The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is seeking residents to fill positions on 12 policy-making boards. These positions include:

- Three spots on the Airport Authority, with two four-year terms ending June 30, 2029, and one partial term ending June 30, 2026.

- One position on the Athens-Clarke County Library Board for a partial term ending December 31, 2027.

- Two positions on the Athens Downtown Development Authority for a two-year term ending July 31, 2027. One must be filled by a downtown property owner and the other by a downtown business owner.

- Four positions on the Development Authority of Athens-Clarke County for four-year terms expiring June 30, 2029.

- Two positions on the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Region 2. One is for a partial term ending June 30, 2027, and another for a three-year term ending June 30, 2028.

- Three positions on the Hearings Board for four-year terms expiring June 30, 2029.

- Three positions on the Historic Preservation Commission. One is for a partial term ending June 30, 2027, and two are three-year terms expiring June 30, 2028.

- Two positions on the Human Relations Commission for partial terms expiring April 30, 2026.

- Two positions on the Planning Commission for five-year terms expiring June 30, 2030.

- Four positions on the Public Safety Civilian Oversight Board for four-year terms expiring May 31, 2029.

- Four positions on the Solid Waste Advisory Commission for four-year terms expiring August 31, 2029.

- Five positions on the Vision Committee. One is for a partial term ending June 30, while four are three-year terms ending in June.

Incumbents may reapply as they are eligible for reappointment.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, April 4. Applicants need to be residents of Athens-Clarke County and can apply online at www.accgov.com/boards or obtain applications from Room 204 of City Hall at College Avenue.

Interviews are scheduled tentatively either Thursday, April or Monday depending upon board availability. Applicants unavailable during these dates should inform when submitting their application. Interviews will be public with notifications sent to selected applicants.

The Mayor and Commission plan interviews with applicants of certain boards such as Airport Authority and others listed above during specific afternoons/evenings in April.

Appointments will likely occur during Regular Session meeting Tuesday May. Further details about each board can be found online at www.accgov.com/boards or through Clerk’s Office contactable via phone number provided or website link given above.
