As the new school year begins, five new principals will take leadership roles in the Jackson County School System. These appointments mark a significant transition for the schools involved.

Dr. Miriam Ledford-Lyle is set to lead Legacy Knoll Middle School, Amy Adams will take charge at South Jackson Elementary, Johnathan Harris will head East Jackson Middle, Melissa Gillespie is appointed at Jackson County High, and Joshua Todd will oversee Gum Springs Elementary.

The principals have been preparing with their administrative teams over the summer to ensure a smooth start. Melissa Gillespie, who has been with Jackson County High School since 2018 and recently served as an assistant principal, expressed her vision: “This year we will engage in an ongoing conversation about why we are #proudtobeJC... Within this culture of possibilities, our students are continually encouraged to believe that nothing is impossible in the pursuit of excellence.”

Joshua Todd moves from his role as assistant principal at JCHS to lead Gum Springs Elementary. He stated his goals for fostering community relationships: “One of my year one goals is to build a culture that is focused on enriching the lives of our students and the community around us.”

Johnathan Harris returns to East Jackson Middle School after previous teaching roles within the system. He aims to strengthen community ties: “I am absolutely thrilled to return... I look forward to working together with them to make EJMS a place of positivity where students grow and succeed.”

Amy Adams transitions from assistant principal at Gum Springs Elementary to principal at South Jackson Elementary. She emphasizes building relationships: “One of our goals as an admin team in our first year is to build and bridge relationships with each other, our staff, students and families of our students.”

Dr. Ledford-Lyle faces unique challenges as she opens Legacy Knoll Middle School but remains optimistic: “A great number of people will be able to leave their legacy at Legacy Knoll; the idea of starting that legacy with a team of people is really exciting.”

Each principal brings experience and enthusiasm as they step into their new roles.
