1,397 students were enrolled in eighth grade in Oconee County schools during 2022-23 school year

There were 1,397 eighth grade students enrolled in Oconee County schools in the 2022-23 school year, 10.9% more than the previous year, according to reports from the Georgia Department of Education.

Malcom Bridge Middle School welcomed the largest number of eighth grade students among county schools, registering 707 students during the 2022-23 school year.

Within Oconee County schools, the highest student count was found in 10th grade, with the smallest class sizes seen in first grade.

Statewide, Oconee County ranked 43rd in enrollment numbers, with a total of 16,881 students enrolled in the 2022-23 school year. It was ranked 44th the year before.

As of 2024, Georgia has an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 15:1, which is better than the national average of 16:1. The state has its best student-to-teacher ratio of 14:1 in pre-kindergarten and middle school grades, while high school has an average ratio of 17:1.
