The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government is inviting the community to join in the Independence Day celebrations at the Star Spangled Classic. The event will take place on Saturday, June 29 at Southeast Clarke Park, located at 4440 Lexington Road. Detailed information and a map of the location can be found at www.accgov.com/fireworks.

The festivities, which include free activities such as carnival rides, inflatables, and a photo booth, will commence at 6:00 p.m. on the Lexington Road fields. Additionally, a special concert by the Original Splitz is scheduled from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. A variety of food items will be available for purchase from an onsite food truck court. The highlight of the evening - a fireworks display - will be launched from the east side of the park around 9:30 p.m.

Limited parking is available on a first-come-first-served basis through the Lexington Road park entrance. Additional parking can be found at the Lexington Road Wal-Mart with complimentary shuttle service provided by Athens Transit to the park. Parking locations will open at 5:30 p.m., and once full, no further vehicles will be permitted into Southeast Clarke Park. Attendees are reminded that all ACCGov park rules will be enforced including prohibitions on alcohol, personal fireworks, grills, smoking and pets.

Attendees are also advised to respect private property when choosing viewing locations and not to park on roadsides for firework viewing. The park will close after the conclusion of the show with no overnight parking allowed. Traffic patterns in the area are expected to change following the event.

In conjunction with this event, ACCGov's Animal Services Department is offering their annual "Foster for the Fourth" program. Applications for fostering can be made at www.accgov.com/animalservices.

In case of weather-related postponements, an alternate date has been set for Sunday, June 30. The Star Spangled Classic is sponsored by The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government and presented by the Leisure Services Department.
