The Prince Avenue Christian School Fine Arts department won first place in the 5-A, Division 1 GHSA One-Act competition with their performance of the Gershwin musical Crazy for You. Prince competed against performances from Jasper County, Oglethorpe County, and Stilwell School of the Arts .
Prince senior Kaylor Jones won best actress for her role as Polly Baker, and sophomore Dylan Capps won best actor for his role as Bobby Child. Seniors Gracie Bahnsen and Claire Gann and freshman Brooks David were named to the all-star cast.
Fine Arts Director LaMurl Morris explains that attention to detail is what propelled the cast of Crazy for You to the first spot in region. “The cast and crew have worked diligently to reach a new level of excellence in technical execution, choreography, dancing, acting, and singing. This attention to detail and understanding of the various aspects of the musical helped us achieve first place in region competition which we have not accomplished in many years.”
Director Hannah Hunt says that having a student-led department is a difference-maker for Prince productions. “Students take responsibility for many aspects of our productions: stage management, student direction, choreography, set design, set construction, props design, and marketing. I truly believe that it is the buy–in from the cast, crew, and their parents which have allowed us to win at the regional level.
The cast and crew of Crazy for You will compete in the GHSA State One-Act Championship competition on Saturday, November 19th in Warner Robbins, Georgia.
