Athens-Clarke County announces holiday schedule changes for public services

Athens-Clarke County Government has announced changes to the schedules of various services and facilities for the upcoming Christmas holidays. These adjustments will affect Animal Services, Leisure Services, Solid Waste, Transit, and other governmental offices.

Animal Services' Adoption Center and Field Services will be closed on December 24 and 25. Regular operations will resume on December 26. Emergency animal services remain available through 911 during this period. The "Holidays at Home" fostering program requires animal pick-up by December 23 and return after December 26.

Leisure Services facilities and parks will also close on December 24 and 25, with normal hours resuming on December 26.

Solid Waste collection for residential and commercial customers outside the Downtown district will be suspended on December 24 and 25. Monday collections proceed as usual, while Tuesday and Wednesday collections move to Thursday, and Thursday collections to Friday. Inside the Downtown district, services pause only on December 25, resuming the next day. Leaf & Limb collection halts for the week of December 23. The landfill closes on December 24 and 25, reopening on December 26. The Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM) shuts down those two days as well but reopens on December 27. The Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) closes only on Christmas Day.

Transit services are unavailable on both December 24 and 25 but resume regular operations on December 26.

All general departmental administrative offices including City Hall, Courthouse, Satula Avenue Building, and Dougherty Street Governmental Building will close during these two days as well.
