The National Rifle Association has endorsed Vernon Jones, a candidate for Georgia’s 10 District Congressional seat.

“I am proud to be the only candidate in this race who has earned the trust of the NRA and its more than 5 million members to protect and defend the 2nd Amendment,” Jones said in a news release.  “My position on the Second Amendment has always been clear: America needs God, not gun control.”

Jones became the latest candidate to be endorsed by the NRA.  Along with their endorsement, the NRA gave Jones an “A” rating for his voting record. Jones’ Republican primary opponent for Georgia’s 10th seat earned an “AQ”, meaning he does not have a voting record to analyze. The two Democrats had “F” ratings.

Jones was a former State Representative in Georgia, before running for the state’s 10th Congressional District. According to Ballotpedia, he is facing a runoff against fellow Republican Mike Collins on June 21. The Democrat primary is also headed to a runoff, where candidate Tabitha Johnson-Green is leading the way. Johnson-Green was the Democrat candidate for the 10th district in 2020.

Besides the NRA, Jones has earned another notable endorsement: that of former President Donald Trump, Newsweek reported.

The NRA issues ratings and endorsements via its Political Victory Fund, a political action committee. The NRA-PVF says its mission is to rate candidates, irrespective of political party, based on their “based on voting records, public statements and their responses to an NRA-PVF questionnaire”.
