The Del McCoury Band will perform at Hodgson Concert Hall as part of the UGA Presents 30th anniversary season, according to a May 1 announcement. The concert is scheduled for May 15 at 7:30 p.m. and is supported by David Coker and Sharon Price.

This event brings one of the most influential bluegrass groups in American roots music to Athens. Led by Del McCoury on guitar and lead vocals, the band also includes his sons Ronnie McCoury (mandolin, vocals) and Rob McCoury (banjo, vocals), along with Alan Bartram (bass, vocals) and Christian Ward (fiddle, vocals). The group is known for its dynamic stage presence and wide-ranging musical catalog.

The Del McCoury Band has played a significant role in bluegrass music, combining technical skill with openness to new collaborations and influences. Their performances have taken them from the Grand Ole Opry to major festivals worldwide, attracting fans across generations.

Del McCoury’s career spans more than sixty years. He began performing with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys before leading his own band. Over time he has helped shape bluegrass while reaching new audiences. His work has received multiple Grammy Awards as well as numerous honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association, including being named Entertainer of the Year ten times.
