The Taylor-Grady House in Athens will host a week of fall-themed events from October 3 to 11, inviting the public to participate in activities that showcase art, heritage, and community traditions. The Celebrate Fall Series includes an opening reception, the Airing of the Quilts Ceremony, a Quilt & Lace Exhibition, and a Fall Festival.

The series begins with a ticketed Quilt & Lace Opening Reception on October 3 at 5 p.m., where attendees can enjoy refreshments and preview the exhibition. On October 5 from 1 to 4 p.m., the annual Airing of the Quilts event invites community members to display their quilts and textiles outdoors. Organizers encourage participants to share stories behind their pieces and connect with other textile enthusiasts.

Throughout the week, visitors can attend the Quilt & Lace Exhibition inside the historic house. The exhibition features antique and modern quilts, laceworks, a replica quilt from 1886, various quilts dating back to 1897, an antique wedding gown, and vintage Katha quilts loaned by Aloka and Amy Flurry. Sew Sew Studio will offer demonstrations on making quilt squares; these squares will be combined into a new quilt for next year’s show. The Athens Lacemakers group will demonstrate lace-making techniques during special sessions on October 9 in the evening and again at the Fall Festival.

The Fall Festival takes place on October 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., offering local vendors, live entertainment, historical demonstrations, and food trucks.

“This October, we’re not just celebrating fall—we’re honoring the living history of the Taylor-Grady House,” said Ben Gerarve, Events Chair. “From the revival of the summer kitchen to the vibrant community festival, each event offers a meaningful connection to this place and its evolving story.”

The Taylor-Grady House was built in 1844 and is recognized as a National Historic Landmark in Athens. It operates as a nonprofit organization focused on preservation efforts while providing educational programs and serving as a venue for cultural events.

Businesses or individuals interested in supporting these activities are encouraged to inquire about sponsorship opportunities by contacting director@taylorgrady.com.
