Charlotte Sosebee, the Elections Director for Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov), has stepped down from her role as of February 21, 2025. She is set to assume a new position as Elections and Registration Manager in Dekalb County, Georgia. Sosebee had been serving as the director of ACCGov's Election Department since December 2016.
“It has been an honor to lead the Athens-Clarke County Elections Department,” Sosebee stated. “I am incredibly proud of the work we have accomplished together in my eight years as director. As I transition to Dekalb County, I look forward to supporting the integrity of the election process in new capacities and exciting ways.”
During her tenure, Sosebee oversaw 22 elections, ensuring they were conducted fairly and transparently. She introduced Spanish language ballots and launched an "I Voted Early" sticker contest. Additionally, she expanded advance voting opportunities by opening new locations such as the Tennis Center, Miriam Moore Community Center, and Extension Office.
Sosebee achieved federal certification through the Election Center while with ACCGov and was recently inducted into the National Hall of Fame of Election Officials.
“Charlotte will certainly be missed in Athens-Clarke County,” said Interim Assistant Manager Andrew Saunders, who oversees the Elections Department. “Her professionalism and dedication to the elections and voter registration process, particularly during a series of high-profile elections over the last eight years, was evident to anyone who interacted with her. We wish her well in her new position.”
In response to Sosebee’s departure, Lisa McGlaun and Pam Long have been appointed as co-interim directors of the ACCGov Elections Department on a rotating three-month basis. This arrangement aims to maintain continuity until a permanent director is selected through a national search conducted by the Manager’s Office.
