Athens-Clarke County Government closes due to icy conditions

Due to icy road conditions and low temperatures, Athens-Clarke County Government (ACCGov) has announced the closure of its general office operations for non-emergency personnel on Wednesday, January 22. All ACCGov offices, departments, and buildings will be inaccessible to the public during this period. Normal operations are set to resume on Thursday, January 23.

Specific department services have also been affected:

Animal Services: The Animal Shelter will not be open for drop-offs, adoptions, or visits on January 22. Emergency services can be accessed by calling 911.

Courts: The Courthouse is closed on January 22. Filings can still be made remotely with the Clerks of the Courts for Superior Court via www.peachcourt.com for civil cases and www.ez-filing.net/Georgia for criminal cases. Juvenile Court after-hours procedures involving CHINS, delinquency, and DFACS matters remain in effect. Municipal Court fines can be paid online at www.athensgatix.com or by phone at 1-855-873-9708. For emergency court matters or to speak with a court official urgently, contact Elisa Zarate at 762-400-6497 or the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Department Courthouse Division at 706-613-3250. All court deadlines scheduled for January 22 are extended until January 23.

Solid Waste: The CHaRM and Landfill are closed on January 22. Trash and recycling collection services will resume when road conditions permit safe travel.

Transit: Bus service is suspended and the Multimodal Transportation Center will remain closed on January 22.
