The Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department has announced changes to its collection schedule in observance of the upcoming holidays. Services will be suspended on Tuesday, December 24th, and Wednesday, December 25th, 2024, for Christmas Day, as well as on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, for New Year's Day. This suspension includes compost, garbage, and recycling collections.
Leaf and Limb collections will also be halted during the week of Christmas and on January 1st for New Year’s celebrations.
For those with residential and commercial services outside the downtown district, adjustments have been made to the pick-up schedule. During Christmas week, Monday's collections remain unchanged. However, Tuesday and Wednesday collections will occur on Thursday, while Thursday's collections move to Friday. In New Year's week, Monday and Tuesday collections follow the regular schedule; however, Wednesday's collection shifts to Thursday and Thursday's to Friday. Normal operations will resume on Monday, January 6th, 2024.
Residents are reminded to place their trash and recycling roll-carts by the curb by 7:00 AM on their designated pick-up days.
Customers within the Downtown District will experience no change in their regular schedule except for a halt in service on Christmas Day.
