The Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Mayor’s Recommended Budget for the Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) has been submitted to the Commission for review. The budget, totaling $193.6 million for FY25, is balanced and represents a 3.7% increase from the FY24 level.

According to the Mayor’s Recommended Budget, the proposed millage rate for property tax year 2024 will remain at 12.45, with each mill producing $1 of taxes for every $1,000 of assessed property value. Specific details of the budget, including a budget summary, can be accessed at www.accgov.com/budget.

The Mayor’s Recommended Budget includes various allocations such as a 4% market increase in employee compensation, additional funding for public safety, health insurance contributions, and investments in different departments like Central Services, Information Technology, Transportation & Public Works, Grants & Community Impact, and more.

As per the Tax Assessor's Office, the FY25 rollback millage rate has been calculated to increase estimated property tax revenues by 7.13% over the rollback millage rate, due to inflationary or reassessment growth. However, individual property tax changes will vary based on the market value of each property.

The Athens-Clarke County Commission is set to adopt the FY25 Budget on June 4, 2024, following three public hearings as required by Georgia law. The public hearings and budget review meetings will be held on various dates in May and June, with live streaming and on-demand viewing available on www.accgov.com/videos.

For those interested in reviewing the FY25 Mayor’s Recommended Budget, it is accessible at www.accgov.com/budget, and physical copies can be inspected at the Athens-Clarke County Library and the Clerk of Commission’s Office in City Hall. Additional information on meeting agendas can be found at www.accgov.com/agendas or by contacting the Clerk of Commission at 706-613-3031.
