The Athens-Clarke County Mayor and Commission have announced significant changes to their Work Session meetings, which will be effective starting on Tuesday, April 9, 2024. The location of the meetings will move from City Hall to the Dougherty Street Government Building Auditorium at 120 West Dougherty Street, and the time will be changed from 5:30 PM to noon.

According to the announcement, Work Sessions will be held generally on the second Tuesday of each month, with additional sessions scheduled on other days as necessary. These meetings serve as platforms for staff and organizations to deliver detailed presentations on specific topics or future initiatives to the Mayor and Commission, allowing for discussions and interactions with presenters and staff.

"The change of location is designed to be a less formal and more conversational setting for presentations and discussions," said the officials. The decision to shift the meetings back to the Dougherty Street Government Building Auditorium was made following a request from the Mayor and Commission during their February 2024 retreat. The aim is to better accommodate the schedules of staff, elected officials, and presenters by holding the meetings during regular working hours.

Agendas for the Work Sessions will be posted in advance at www.accgov.com/agendas. Additionally, the meetings will continue to be live-streamed on the ACCGov YouTube channel and Roku channel. Recordings of the sessions will also be available for viewing on ACTV Spectrum Channel 180, the ACCGov YouTube channel, www.accgov.com/videos, and the ACCGov Roku channel.

The upcoming changes are expected to create a more engaging and productive environment for Work Session meetings, providing stakeholders with an opportunity to delve into important topics and initiatives in a collaborative manner.
