Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services swiftly responded to a structure fire at 286 Woodbridge Circle on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024. Neighbors alerted authorities after an occupant sought help to rescue his adult son from the smoky residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered light smoke emerging from the split-level two-story residence. The first responders wasted no time, swiftly removing the son from the basement landing and attending to his needs. Fire crews efficiently deployed hose lines to combat the fire, which was located near a wood stove in the basement.

Chief Nate Moss commended the successful rescue operation, expressing relief that all occupants managed to evacuate the premises safely. He emphasized the vital importance of fire safety measures, stating, "The importance of practicing a fire exit strategy cannot be overestimated."

Although the cause and origin of the fire remain unknown, the authorities are actively investigating the incident. The patient rescued from the home was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
