The Lexington Road Tax Allocation District (TAD) Advisory Committee, in conjunction with the Athens-Clarke County (ACCGov) Economic Development Department, has announced the hosting of two open house sessions and an online survey in March to gather input from residents on potential constructions within the TAD boundaries.

According to a statement released on March 6, 2024, the open house sessions are scheduled for Thursday, March 14, and Thursday, March 21, from 5:00-7:00 PM at the ACCGov Police East Precinct and Tuckston UMC Fellowship Hall, respectively. Residents are encouraged to attend these sessions to learn more about the TAD process and share their ideas for community improvements. "Light refreshments will be provided," the announcement stated.

In addition to the open house sessions, an online survey will be available on the ACCGov website until Sunday, March 31, for those unable to attend in person. The survey aims to gather feedback from a wider range of residents within the Lexington Road area. The TAD is described as a redevelopment tool that utilizes increased property taxes from new developments to finance various development-related costs. These costs may include public infrastructure, demolition, utilities, and planning expenses.

The Mayor & Commission of Athens-Clarke County approved redevelopment plans on November 10, 2020, to establish six tax allocation districts across the county. Interested individuals can find more details about all six TADS, including maps, on the ACCGov website.

The Lexington Road TAD encompasses 309 property parcels over 394 acres, located southeast of downtown Athens. The boundaries of the TAD stretch along Lexington Road from Johnson Drive east towards Cooper Road, with additional parcels along Gaines School Road and Cherokee Road.

For further information on the Lexington Road TAD public input opportunities, residents are encouraged to visit the ACCGov website or contact Caitlin Dye from the ACCGov Economic Development Department at caitlin.dye@accgov.com.
