Rep. Houston Gaines receives Leadership Award from Council of State Governments

In a significant recognition of leadership and service, State Representative Houston Gaines of District 120 in Barrow, Clarke, Jackson, and Oconee counties secures the 20 Under 40 Leadership Award from the Council of State Governments. The award will be presented at the 2023 CSG National Conference in Raleigh, marking his dedication to public service and exceptional leadership.

In a press release by the Georgia General Assembly, Gaines said: "This honor is really about the teamwork of the Georgia General Assembly and is a testament to all that the House Majority Caucus and the General Assembly as a whole have achieved; I’m very proud of all we’ve accomplished together. I’m honored to serve alongside my colleagues in the House, and I’m grateful to represent the incredible people of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson and Oconee counties."

According to another press release by the Georgia General Assembly, this award recognizes officials under 40 years old who showcase strong leadership abilities and steadfast commitment towards serving their state's citizens.

The executive director of Council of State Governments (CSG), David Adkins expressed admiration for these officials' accomplishments. "While they come from diverse backgrounds, different political parties, every branch of state government and every region of our country, they share the same commitment to serve others", said Adkins.

The CSG website states that since its inception in 1933 it has served all three branches of state government while providing opportunities for networking, leadership development at regional, national levels.

Representative Gaines serves District 120 which includes parts of Barrow, Clarke, Jackson,and Oconee counties. He was elected in 2018 and holds positions as Vice Chairman among other roles within various committees according to an additional press release by Georgia General Assembly.

According to CSG's website again,the award not only acknowledges excellence but also ability to engage diverse officials from varying departments or states who actively seek enhancing lives within specific policy areas. The criteria serve as a framework for recognizing outstanding dedication and leadership in serving the community and advancing policies for the common good.
