Peter Stoddard Named Spokesperson for Lewis Grizzard Museum

Athens Area Chamber of Commerce ambassador, Peter Stoddard, has been named the official spokesperson for the Lewis Grizzard Museum in Grizzard's hometown of Moreland, GA. The charming town of Moreland had about 400 residents when Lewis was growing up, and it has about 400 residents today. Stoddard will serve this role from Athens, GA. He said, "I first visited the Museum in November 2018, and their collection of Grizzard artifacts was quite impressive. The collection is considerably larger now. That led me to Lewis’ and my alma mater, the University of Georgia. I was soon encouraged by many to write a book. “Lewis Grizzard: The Dawg That Did Not Hunt” published in 2019, followed by “Lewis Grizzard: The Dawg Who Loved to Prowl” in 2021. I now speak to groups about Lewis, albeit for fees far less than he charged.”

The Lewis Grizzard Museum is part of the Moreland Cultural Arts Alliance. Erskine Caldwell is another best selling author who was born in Moreland. Executive Director Carol Chancey does a splendid job promoting Grizzard, Caldwell and other Moreland history.

Museum staff are working on a Lewis Grizzard documentary. Stoddard plans to assist with that production and assist with fundraising by way of crowdfunding.

”I have long said that Lewis was the greatest humorist America ever produced. A fan recently took that up a notch, saying, ‘Lewis was the funniest person ever.’ I will not argue that point, and my aim is to resurrect and preserve his legacy. I urge long time Grizzard fans and folks who have recently discovered his humor to visit the Museum.”
