Country of Clarke issued the following announcement on May 13.

Open House on May 19 & Survey through May 22 for SPLOST-Funded Youth & Community Enrichment Facility

A drop-in open house on site criteria for the SPLOST 2011 Project #22 - Youth and Community Enrichment Facility Partnership will take place on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Rocksprings Park Community Center at 291 Henderson Extension.

The open house will provide residents with an opportunity to view and comment on the criteria that is being proposed for determining the best site for the new facility. Possible sites will be evaluated against the final criteria that will be approved by the Mayor and Commission after hearing recommendations from the SPLOST Site Selection Committee, a resident committee appointed by Mayor Kelly Girtz and chaired by District 8 Commissioner Carol Myers.

The open house is a drop-in format with information provided about each of the criteria. ACCGov staff and SPLOST Site Selection Committee members also will be at the open house to answer questions about the criteria. No formal presentation will be given.

An online survey is also now available at www.accgov.com/splost through Sunday, May 22 for resident comments. The survey also includes information on the proposed site criteria, area maps, and the project process.

After the criteria is approved by the Mayor and Commission, the SPLOST Site Selection Committee will begin the process to study candidate sites, hold an additional open house and survey on possible candidate sites, and provide candidate sites to the Mayor and Commission for consideration. This process is expected to take place throughout the remainder of 2022.

The SPLOST-funded Youth and Community Enrichment Facility Partnership project will provide a new facility in partnership with the Athens Land Trust for youth development and family educational programs in Athens-Clarke County. The project is envisioned to include components such as a computer lab and technology center, classrooms and conference space, associated administrative and operational areas, an incubator kitchen, wood and metal shops, and gardening and market space with an exterior pavilion and stage area. The Mayor and Commission selected the Athens Land Trust as the community partner and Architectural Collaborative, LLC for the facility design.
