Scholarship money

Athens Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Feb. 15.

The Classic Center Cultural Foundation is eager to announce new scholarships available through the Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund. The Classic Center Cultural Foundation has raised money through the Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund to provide up to $25,000 to individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in hospitality, event, music, or the sports management industry. The Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund allows The Classic Center Cultural Foundation to give this $25,000 in addition to the $30,000 that The Classic Center Cultural Foundation awards in the areas of hospitality, performing and visual arts.

Applications for the Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund are open to anyone who is currently enrolled in hospitality industry programs at Piedmont University, The University of Georgia, and Athens Technical College. Students either enrolled or planning to enroll in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at Piedmont University will have priority when scholarships are awarded. Graduating seniors of the Athens Community Career Academy are also encouraged to apply.

The Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund was established to honor Paul Martin and his lifelong contributions to Athens. He has always been a big supporter of the hospitality industry and the growth that it brings to the community. Paul Martin has been an essential part of the vision and establishment of the continuum of hospitality education, which meets individuals where they are in their career path to teach them the necessary skills to succeed in the hospitality industry. Paul Martin has also been a huge believer in both classroom curriculum and hands on training and feels students receive the best education when these two tactics are combined.

Paul Martin was essential to the creation of the new Classic Center learning lab, where The Classic Center has partnered with Piedmont University, where students must complete six credit hours of working at The Classic Center in order to graduate from the Hospitality and Tourism Program.

Paul Martin was a member of The Classic Center Authority Board from 1996 to 2004. After serving on The Classic Center Authority Board, Paul Martin became a Board Emeritus member, a lifelong status. He is a gifted teacher with a love of sports and education. Paul Martin’s values of serving others through hospitality, teamwork, and servant style leadership has helped shape the mission of The Classic Center into the place it is today.

If you are interested in applying for the Paul T. Martin Hospitality Education Fund visit ClassicCenter.com/Scholarships or e-mail Foundation@ClassicCenter.com. All applications must be submitted by April 29, 2022. Qualified applicants will then undergo an interview process, and recipients will be announced in June 2022.
