Brenau University issued the following announcement on Jan. 7.
Based on COVID-19 trends in the community and state, Brenau University decided on Thursday, Jan. 6, to delay on-ground classes for the spring semester until Wednesday, Jan. 12, and temporarily move the majority of these courses online.
Brenau believes taking this proactive measure at the beginning of the semester will help the university fulfill its mission to educate students, with as few disruptions as possible.
Brenau’s campuses remain open. All classes will be held online through Sunday, Jan. 30, and it is expected that in-person classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 31. Classes that already were scheduled to be online will begin on Monday, Jan. 10, as planned. Only the courses that are shifting from in-person to online will have a delayed start date.
We understand that some of Brenau’s residential students may choose not to return to campus at this time, but residence halls will reopen this weekend as planned. Brenau will also offer a second move-in period later in the month for those who prefer to delay their return.
While classes are occurring online, most of the required, hands-on activities such as labs, clinical experiences, rehearsals, auditions, etc. will continue to be held in-person with COVID protocols in place. Activities in health care settings may require additional protocols such as the wearing of N95 masks, face shields and gloves, which will be provided by the university. Student teaching, field placements and teacher internships also will continue in those area K-12 school systems that maintain in-person instruction.
Brenau employees, including all faculty and staff, should discuss with their supervisors the necessity to be physically present at a work location through Jan. 28.
The university encourages faculty, staff and students to assist in efforts to keep Brenau’s campus communities healthy and safe by following the latest CDC guidelines whether they are on campus or away from campus. All students, faculty and staff are reminded to follow Brenau’s COVID protocols on campus, including:
- Anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been exposed to the virus should complete Brenau’s COVID Reporting Form.
- Masks must be worn indoors on all campuses, and everyone should complete the COVID-19 Screening Checklist before entering a building.
- For more information about COVID-19 protocols and campus operations, please check your Brenau email for information and visit the FAQs.
According to health care experts, the nationwide increase in cases is expected to be short-lived. The university appreciates the cooperation and adaptability of faculty, staff and students during this fluid situation. Brenau will continue to monitor the situation and provide information and guidance if circumstances change.
