COBB SCHOOLS: The Chairman's Brief - Fueling Student Success with Emily Hanlin

Cobb Schools issued the following announcement on Nov. 18.

This week on The Chairman’s Brief, Mr. Scamihorn gets Ms. Emily Hanlin to detail her recipe for success as the executive director of Food and Nutrition Services.

Ms. Hanlin, who is in her 15th year in school nutrition, grew up down the road in Gwinnett County but has called Cobb home for the past 25 years. Before taking the lead of Cobb’s Food & Nutrition Services team, the University of Georgia graduate served as an area supervisor over 18 Cobb schools and then went on to gain more experience as a director at two other school districts. However, her goal was always to return home to Cobb Schools and Cobb students.

Ms. Hanlin is proud of the work her team does to fuel student success, which includes serving up about 97,000 meals per day. (During the height of the pandemic, the Cobb team provided about 13 million meals.)

At least 20% of the food on a Cobb student’s tray is locally produced or grown, which helped the District earn a GADOE Vision Award in 2020. Although they focus on local products every day, they highlight a different one every month.

Watch the video below to learn more from Ms. Hanlin about the types of jobs, the number of team members, and everything else that goes on inside school kitchens to keep students fed and ready to learn.
