St. Mary’s Foundation honored former University of Georgia football coach Mark Richt at its Celebration of Courageous Leaders Gala held on March 28.
The event recognized Richt for his contributions as a coach, mentor, and community leader who has demonstrated faith, character, and leadership throughout his career. The gala aimed to highlight individuals whose work inspires others and supports the mission of St. Mary’s Health Care System.
Richt coached at the University of Georgia from 2001 to 2015 before returning to his alma mater, the University of Miami, where he led the football program from 2016 to 2018. After retiring from coaching, Richt and his family have supported various charitable causes in their community.
“Coach Richt exemplifies the values this celebration represents—faith, integrity, and service to others,” said Stonish Pierce, President and CEO of St. Mary’s Health Care System. “We are proud to honor a leader whose impact continues to inspire our community.”
The gala raised more than $350,000 for St. Mary’s mission of providing patient-centered care in the region. Jennifer Messer, Chief Development Officer for St. Mary’s Foundation said: “Thanks to the incredible support of our attendees and sponsors, this event will directly benefit the patients and families we serve.” She added that these funds would help ensure individuals experience comfort during vulnerable times.
St. Mary’s Health Care System is a nonprofit organization affiliated with Trinity Health that operates three hospitals in the region and provides services including cardiac care, stroke treatment, neurosciences, orthopedics, women’s health services, children’s health services and advanced robotic surgery.
