A special election will be held on December 9, 2025, to fill a vacancy in Georgia House District 121. The notice for this election was issued by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on November 3. The seat has been represented by Marcus Wiedower since 2018.
Residents of Athens-Clarke County who live within the boundaries of House District 121 are eligible to vote in this election. This includes more than 15,000 voters across ten precincts. Voters can confirm their eligibility by visiting the Georgia My Voter Page or contacting the Athens-Clarke County Elections Department.
The deadline to register or update voter information for this election is November 10, 2025.
Advance voting will take place at two locations: the ACCGov Elections Department at 155 E. Washington Street and the ACCGov Tennis Center at 4460 Lexington Road. Voting times vary between November 17 and December 5, with specific dates and hours provided on the county’s advance voting website (www.accgov.com/advancevoting). There will be no advance voting from November 27 through November 30 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Voters who prefer absentee ballots should request them as soon as possible. The final day to submit an absentee ballot request is November 26, with requests accepted by phone, in person, email, or online (www.accgov.com/absenteevoting).
Sample ballots will be made available after candidate qualifying ends on November 10 at www.accgov.com/sampleballot.
On Election Day, polls across all precincts will be open from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM. All voters in line by closing time will be allowed to cast their ballots.
If no candidate secures a majority in the special election, a runoff is scheduled for January 6. Details about any potential runoff and associated deadlines would be released if necessary.
