The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department announced on Apr. 6 that Snake Day will take place on Saturday, May 2 from noon to 4:00 p.m. at Sandy Creek Nature Center.

The event is intended to educate the public about Georgia’s more than 40 species of snakes and provide an opportunity for families to learn from experts in a hands-on environment. Activities will include crafts and games suitable for all ages, with a focus on reptiles.

Admission is $5 per person, while children under three years old can attend free of charge. For additional information about the event, attendees are encouraged to call the provided contact number.

Sandy Creek Nature Center is one of several facilities managed by the City of Athens as part of its municipal services, which also include parks and community programs according to the official website. The city operates as a consolidated city-county government delivering unified public services across Athens and Clarke County according to the official website.

In addition to managing recreational events like Snake Day, Athens supports historic preservation through sites such as the restored Morton Theatre, which has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1910 according to the official website.
