Pruitthealth – Athens Heritage, located in Clarke County, was owned by Neil Pruitt as of the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Neil Pruitt has held ownership of the facility since Nov. 27, 2013.
The nursing home operates as a for-profit establishment.
It held a four-star overall rating from CMS during that quarter—outperforming Georgia’s state average for nursing homes, which stood at 2.7. CMS assigns these ratings based on various key factors, including health inspections, staffing patterns, and the quality of care delivered to residents.
The report said Pruitthealth – Athens Heritage accommodated an average of 89.4 residents per day in the first quarter of 2026, with 104 available beds. The facility is not affiliated with a hospital.
In the same period, the nursing home incurred $16,801 from three fines and received three separate penalties.
There were a total of four for-profit nursing homes operating in Clarke County, Georgia.
Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau show the population of older adults nationwide is increasing as the numbers in younger age brackets decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older grew by 13%, while the under-18 group fell by 1.7%. The nation’s older population has surged over the last century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.
A 2021 study found that nearly half of these individuals—about 28 million—will need long-term services and support. Researchers also projected that more than one-third could eventually require nursing home care.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
