Prince Avenue Christian School issued the following announcement on May 4.

The Prince Avenue Christian School Writing Team recently competed in the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Creative Writing Festival.  The team of twenty-three 4th–7th graders, coached by Prince Media Specialist Danny Delgado and 5th-grade teacher Amy Tarelton, met twice a week during the spring semester for a writing master class with Prince alumna and published children’s author Mez Blume (’06).

The team covered a multitude of writing skills and topics and submitted their final products for adjudication.  Of the twenty-three stories, more than half were nominated for an “excellent” rating with one earning a “superior” rating.

The Writing Team has compiled all of their stories into a published anthology titled The Chronicles of Prince Avenue: the Pen, the Paper, and the Wolverine.  The team enjoyed a book launch party in which each writer was recognized for his or her accomplishments and presented with a personal copy of the book.  The book will also be available to check out in the PACS Media Center.

Prince Lower School Principal Becky Callaway explains that the Writing Team is a valuable experience for the students providing a unique opportunity for growth.  “Studies show that a common thread connecting all great achievers, no matter the field, is their ability to communicate effectively.  This year’s publication, confirms that exponential growth in a subject area can happen, given the right nurturing environment.  The whole experience, crowned by this published anthology of stories, will be treasured by the writers and their readers for years to come.”
