The cast and crew of the Prince production of The Sound of Music were recently recognized by the Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Shuler Awards. Fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards, the Shuler Hensley Awards program celebrates excellence in high school musical theatre. This year, 50 schools participated in 17 categories.

Prince students and faculty were adjudicated by the Shuler Awards during their March performance of the classic musical. The following students and faculty received nominations: junior Kaylor Jones for choreography, Matthew Smock for sound, Hannah Hunt for direction, and LaMurl Morris for musical direction.  In addition, the following students and faculty received honorable mention:  junior Gracie Cochran, Hannah Hunt, and the tech crew for technical execution, junior Claire Gann for leading actress, and the cast and crew for overall production.

The Shuler Awards program will be broadcast live on Georgia Public Broadcasting on Thursday, April 21st at 8:00 pm.  Senior Rinne Furlow and junior Kaylor Jones will perform in the student ensemble, and sophomore Grayson Casto will help with the crew.  The winners for each category will be announced during the awards program.  Prince families and friends are encouraged to tune in and support Prince Fine Arts.  Congratulations to the Prince Fine Arts Department for receiving this statewide recognition.
