Piedmont Eastside Medical Center partnered with The Sheridan at Eastside, a local senior living facility, to create an art gallery for the public to view. It’s called “Art of Healing” and it was created by two residents, Stephen Buckley and Anne Ranne, whose goal was to uplift spirits. The idea came from management at The Sheridan, which has a monthly art club where residents make “feel good” art, and thought it would be worth sharing with others.

The exhibit is to be an inaugural and will feature work from several local entities. This first one, with the Sheridan, is a space where families and staff may sit and be surrounded by the colorful and uplifting pieces of art.

“I have a lot of time on my hands and I didn’t really grow up with a talent to paint, I just started to pick it up,” said Buckley. “If people like something and want something special, I do the best I can to make that for someone in mind. It’s what I do. Make people feel good when they see my art.”

“Art work is like meditation and I recommend it for anyone really,” said Ranne. “I feel like it’s a way for me to give back to my community and I hope it’ll give patients peace, if it pleases them, and hopefully makes them feel better.”

The exhibition has 15 prints of original works by Buckley and Ranne and at the conclusion of the show, they have generously agreed to offer the artwork to Piedmont Eastside patients as gifts, to support and encourage them along their journey of healing.

Eastside’s CEO, Trent Lind says this is something he is proud to be apart of. “Our goal with this exhibit is to recognize the contributions to healing that art can provide, and to showcase some of the artists in our local community. It is just one more way that we fulfill the Piedmont mission ‘to make a positive difference in every life that we touch.’”

The gallery is located in Eastside’s patient tower, better known as the Art of Healing Tower, until March 10 and is open to the public.
