The total enrollment at North Oconee High School reached 1,426 students during the 2024-25 school year. Hispanic students represented 8% of the population, making them the school’s second-largest demographic group.

This school, part of the Oconee County School District, is overseen by a central office in Watkinsville.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports Georgia’s public schools overall enrolled students as follows: 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism remains widespread across Georgia schools since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more days in 2024, according to the Georgia Department of Education. In response, the agency launched a real-time attendance dashboard, began a public awareness campaign, and is focusing on targeted supports for high-need districts.

A 2025 law passed by Georgia legislators updates attendance regulations, prohibiting expulsion based solely on absenteeism and adding new reporting rules. The updates also support programs that provide alternative diploma paths.

By 2026, Georgia schools averaged a 14:1 student-to-teacher ratio, an improvement over the national average of 15:1.
