In the 2024-25 school year, Kennedy Elementary School had 276 white students enrolled—an increase of 4.9% over the prior year, reports from the Georgia Department of Education show.

The school’s total enrollment for 2024-25 reached 727 students. White students represented 38% of the overall student body, making them the largest demographic at Kennedy Elementary School.

Located in the Barrow County School District, the school’s central office is in Winder.

Of the 16 schools in Barrow County School District, Winder-Barrow High School had the highest count of white students in 2024-25, with 839 enrolled.

The National Center for Education Statistics reported Georgia’s public school racial and ethnic breakdown as approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism remains a persistent challenge in Georgia since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing at least 10% of school days in 2024, per the Georgia Department of Education. In response, GaDOE started a statewide effort that features a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness campaign, and targeted assistance for the highest-need districts.

In 2025, Georgia lawmakers approved new attendance laws barring expulsion solely for absenteeism. The legislation includes additional reporting rules and supports programs helping students graduate through alternative routes.

By 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio was about 14:1, an improvement over the national average of 15:1.
