Jefferson Academy enrolls 56 multiracial students for 2024-25, a 19% increase

During the 2024-25 school year, Jefferson Academy saw enrollment of 56 multiracial students, an increase of 19.1% over the prior year, Georgia Department of Education data show.

The total student body reached 936 this year. Multiracial students comprised 6% of enrollment, making them the school’s third-largest demographic group.

Jefferson Academy operates within the Jefferson City School District and is centrally located in Jefferson.

Out of the four schools in the Jefferson City School District, Jefferson Academy reported the highest enrollment of multiracial students for 2024-25, with 56 students.

Georgia public schools enrolled over 1.7 million students, according to the Georgia Department of Education’s Fiscal Year 2026-1 report. Elementary students totaled 787,206 (45.9%), followed by 388,733 middle schoolers (22.7%), and 539,092 students in high school (31.4%).

Georgia schools have continued to face elevated rates of chronic absenteeism post-pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more school days in 2024, Georgia Department of Education data show. As a response, GaDOE introduced a statewide program featuring a real-time dashboard, awareness campaigns and targeted assistance for districts needing improved daily attendance.

Lawmakers in Georgia adopted new school attendance guidelines in 2025 prohibiting expulsion based solely on absenteeism. The law includes new reporting rules and supports programs aiding alternative diploma completion paths.

By 2026, Georgia recorded a student-to-teacher ratio of about 14:1, which is stronger than the national average of 15:1.
