Jackson County High School recorded 260 African American students enrolled for the 2024-25 school year, marking a 26.8% increase compared to the prior year, according to data from the Georgia Department of Education.

According to enrollment numbers, the total student body at Jackson County High School for 2024-25 stood at 2,173. African American students comprised 12% of the population, representing the school’s second-smallest demographic group.

The school is part of the Jackson County School District, which is administered from a central office in Jefferson.

Within the Jackson County School District’s 10 schools, Jackson County High School reported the highest number of African American students enrolled in the 2024-25 school year, with 260 students.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that for public schools in Georgia, the racial and ethnic breakdown was approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to challenge Georgia schools since the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more of school days in 2024, according to Georgia Department of Education figures. To address this, GaDOE introduced a statewide initiative featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, public awareness outreach, and targeted assistance to districts with high needs to improve daily attendance.

In 2025, Georgia lawmakers approved legislation amending attendance laws to prohibit expulsion solely for absenteeism. The law also implements new reporting responsibilities and supports pathways for students to earn diplomas through alternative means.

By 2026, Georgia’s student-to-teacher ratio reached about 14:1, which compares favorably to the national ratio of 15:1.
