City of Jefferson staff, Civil Engineering Consultants, Inc, and Lakeshore Engineering, LLC discussed construction plans for the I-85 1.0 MGD Water Reclamation Facility on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Jefferson Civic Center. The project is scheduled to break ground early October 2022. The facility will be located off of Concord Road. The estimated $27 million facility will be funded through GEFA (Georgia Environmental Finance Authority) and ARPA (The American Rescue Plan Act). As a Water First Community, the city received a reduced interest rate of 0.13% on the 20 year loan from GEFA.
