Houston Gaines, a Republican member of the Georgia State House representing the 120th District, posted a series of statements on his social media account on September 10, 2025. His comments addressed recent events related to criminal justice policy and political violence.
On September 10, Gaines criticized cashless bail policies, writing: “Cashless bail is a failed policy with fatal consequences. What happened to Iryna Zarutska is sickening. It’s time to end cashless bail nationwide and remove liberal judges & prosecutors putting innocent lives at risk.” (posted at 01:11 UTC).
Later that day, he posted a message concerning conservative commentator Charlie Kirk: “Pray for Charlie Kirk “ (posted at 19:04 UTC).
In a subsequent post on the same day, Gaines elaborated on his support for Kirk and condemned political violence: “Charlie Kirk did things the right way—he went into some of the most hostile places for conservatives & debated those with opposing views. That’s what America is all about. What happened today is the exact opposite—political violence has no place in our country. It’s repulsive &” (posted at 21:21 UTC).
Gaines was elected to represent Georgia’s 120th House District in 2023, succeeding Trey Rhodes. As a state legislator, he has focused on issues including criminal justice reform and public safety.
