Houston Gaines, a Republican elected to the Georgia State House in 2023 to represent the state’s 120th House District, recently shared updates on legislative action and community events through his social media posts.
On March 19, 2026, Gaines announced the passage of a temporary suspension of the state gas tax. He wrote, “Today, we gave final passage to a two-month suspension of the gas tax to provide relief at the pump—I was proud to support it. This means savings of about 33 cents a gallon on gasoline & 37 cents a gallon on diesel for Georgia drivers.”
Two days later, on March 21, Gaines attended a local event and highlighted its significance: “Enjoyed the UGA Great Southland Stampede Rodeo tonight in Athens. It’s the longest running student-run rodeo in the country. Good to see my friend Commissioner of Agriculture @TylerHarperGA. I’m honored to have his support. Go Dawgs!”
Later that day, he expressed appreciation for Elon Musk with a brief message: “Incredible. Thank you, @elonmusk “
Gaines assumed office after replacing former state representative Trey Rhodes in 2023.
