The House Study Committee on Gaming in the State of Georgia will hold its third meeting on September 29, 2025, at Savannah Technical College. The committee is chaired by State Representative Marcus Wiedower (R-Watkinsville).

The committee was established by House Resolution 753 to examine the potential effects of legalizing gaming in Georgia. Its focus includes evaluating how legalization could impact the state’s economy and workforce development, particularly regarding revenue expectations and job quality. The committee will also consider possible social issues that might arise if gaming is approved by Georgia’s citizens.

Additionally, the study aims to determine whether legalizing gaming would increase tax revenues for the state and help meet government budget needs.

“Created by House Resolution 753, this study committee will study how legalization of gaming in this state, if approved by the people and enabled by the General Assembly, would contribute to the economy and workforce development of this state as to revenue expectations and quality of jobs being available when weighed against what social and societal ills may come to Georgia if gaming is approved by the citizens of this state, as well as determine if the legalization of gaming would also increase tax revenues for Georgia and aid in meeting the budgetary demands of government.”

Members of the public can find more information about the meeting or access a live stream through official channels.

Burns, a Republican who represents Georgia’s 159th House District, has served in the legislature since his election in 2005, succeeding Ray Holland.

The meeting will take place at Savannah Technical College’s Eckburg Building (M200 in Gwen Goodman Hall), located at 5717 White Bluff Road in Savannah.
