Total enrollment at Jefferson Elementary School reached 808 students for 2024-25. Hispanic students comprised 11% of the school’s population, ranking as the second-largest ethnic group at the school.

Jefferson Elementary is part of the Jefferson City School District, which has its central office in Jefferson.

Of the four schools in Jefferson City School District, Jefferson High School had the highest Hispanic student enrollment in 2024-25, totaling 134 students.

The National Center for Education Statistics reports that the racial and ethnic breakdown of Georgia public school students included approximately 36.4% Black, 35.9% white, 18.1% Hispanic, 4% Asian, 4.6% multiracial, 0.2% American Indian or Alaska Native, and 0.1% Pacific Islander.

Chronic absenteeism continues to be a significant concern for Georgia schools following the pandemic, with 20.7% of students missing 10% or more days in 2024, the Georgia Department of Education reports. In response, GaDOE has launched a statewide effort featuring a real-time attendance dashboard, a public awareness initiative, and targeted resources for districts most affected to improve attendance rates.

Georgia lawmakers in 2025 approved legislation updating attendance rules to prohibit expulsion solely for absenteeism. The measure also introduces new reporting requirements and supports alternative diploma pathways for students.

As of 2026, Georgia’s average student-to-teacher ratio stood at about 14:1, ahead of the national average of 15:1.
