FOIA Request Sent to Oglethorpe County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Oglethorpe County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request, made by Athens Reporter, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks detailed information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The requested records include a list of all candidates with their first, middle, and last names. The office they are running for and its jurisdiction is also requested along with the party affiliation of each candidate.

Additionally, the Athens Reporter has asked for complete contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to these public records is crucial in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Oglethorpe County Election Department regarding this request.
