FOIA Request to Madison County Election Department Regarding Ballot Counting Methods on October 29, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Athens Reporter have submitted a request under the Georgia Open Records Act § 50.18.70 et seq. The request, sent to the Madison County Election Department in Georgia, seeks detailed information about the methods being used to count votes in the upcoming election.

Specifically, we have asked for a list of methods they are using to count votes. If the counting is done manually, we have requested an estimated number of people who will be working on election night.

Access to public records is essential for us at Athens Reporter to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We await their response and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency in local government affairs.
